This bolt is relocated to the top middle position to maintain 6 bolts retaining the transmission. This is not employed, because with the flush bellhousing position, the bolt would intrude into the Number 8 cylinder. The bellhousing pattern on all LS Gen III/IV engines maintains the old Chevy V8 pattern with the upper bolt on the passenger side missing (arrow).
